Home Minister Amit Shah while addressing a public meeting in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, has accused the opposition parties stating that they are spreading lies about the amendment to the citizenship law and said that no one's citizenship will be taken away by this law.

He said, "Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi, Communist, Congress, and Mamata Didi have claimed that minority citizenship will be taken away by the amendment of the Citizenship Act. Why are they lying? The Citizenship Amendment act is not meant to take anyone of their citizenship."

For the first time, the central government has enacted a law to determine citizenship based on religion. Accordingly, citizenship law gives citizenship rights to non-Muslims who come to India due to religious threats in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The problem with this is that it excludes Muslims.

Protests are taking place all over the country, claiming that the law is against Islam and the Constitution.

The central government and Amit Shah have said that the citizenship law does not deprive anyone of their citizenship and gives citizenship to victims of religious minorities in the neighboring countries.

Commenting on the opposition parties, Amit Shah said, "Opposition parties are creating violence through false propaganda."

At least 42 people have died in the violence which happened in Delhi. The police in Delhi are under the control of the Home Ministry. Opposition parties have been criticizing the Home Ministry and have asked Amit Shah to resign the post.
